Vesica Piscis
...marking a return to oil paintings after decades away.
"Vesica Piscis" is the name of a geometric shape formed by overlapping circles. The shape of overlapping magesteria in a Venn Diagram in three dimensions is the shape of a lens, its variant: the football. On the great Atlantic seaboard, vast tubes of air the shape of elongated and twisted footballs are pushed by crosswinds. Sliding across the face of a planet, illuminated by an ongoing cosmic nuclear explosion, they create atmosphere undergirding giant swaths of evaporated liquid. Meanwhile on the ground, great bodies of unevaporated fluid reflect the curved atmosphere in ripples. Reflections can show zenith and opposing horizons simultaneously. Perception is fluid. Punctuating the separation of planet and atmosphere, stalks of shoregrass sweep the low altitude. Internally, the wetlands are analogous to the digestive system, processing everything that slides down. These paintings represent the artist's reconnection to oil-based paint. They illustrate the artist's careful observation of the natural world. In a sublte sense, one can see the absence of the artist's father, and a search for peace.
